aceofkittens: (do not want!)
The laptop has a virus (or thirty). I knew something was wrong last week when web surfing crawled to a painfully snail-like pace, my Wifi connection kept breaking, and FF started randomly opening up tabs to spam sites.

Boring details )
aceofkittens: (shit happens)
I don't know whether it's the fact that my ever-dwindling attention span is now only able to keep up with Facebook/Twitter, or simply that my love affair with LJ is finally coming to an end. I just know that I really shouldn't have wasted the money on that paid account renewal.

Some notable stuff from May through July:
+ Rescued some adorable kittens
+ Got to go to the annual [ profile] toastmantom Memorial Day Weekend BBQ
- Got very ill at the annual [ profile] toastmantom Memorial Day Weekend BBQ
+ Visits to LA by [ profile] mzsa, [ profile] mittenz, [ profile] wyckhurst, and [ profile] eto_theipi
+ Went to the beach twice
+ The ants have gone away
+ Went to both a Rhett Miller concert and an Old 97's concert
+ Went to a great concert at the Hollywood Bowl
+ Went to Infected Mushroom and remembered to bring earplugs
- Inexplicable sudden total irrecoverable failure of my laptop's hard drive
- I am an idiot who does not make regular backups :(
- All my photos from 2008-2009 are now lost forever, along with all my music and all my writing
+ A friend gave me a replacement hard drive for free!!!!!
+ I still love my Sidekick
- It's having problems with the headset, so phone conversations have dwindled
+ Celebrated our 4th Chip-a-versary on July 19/20th!!!!
+ Chip seems to be doing really well
- Chip is misbehaving horribly every morning, clawing and biting me as early as 5 a.m. in his quest for food
+ Going to Vegas this weekend for [ profile] bigkgbguy's annual birthday party!!!

Well, that about sums it up.

I seemingly have somehow destroyed yet another laptop.

...Fuck. :(
aceofkittens: (disconnected)
*sigh* On Sunday, after 2.5 valiant years of service, my computer. "Rhett, the laptop formerly known as Crunchy III," (aka "C3")suffered a major blow that may ultimately result in final death.

Back in like, September or October, I'd started having trouble with the inverter, which meant that the LCD screen would abruptly turn completely "negative." It was only temporary (at first), and when the episodes grew more frequent, I was able to determine that pressure at the very top of the screen would fix the problem. I eventually attached a binder clip up there and life rolled on as usual.

On Sunday, the binder clip stopped working. More pressure was needed, apparently, so I attached a small bracket to the area in question. A few hours later, this caused the LCD to crack. :/ D'oh.

Now, C3 is at the shop, and the chances are that it will cost more to fix it than it would be to buy a whole new laptop. :( This is why I didn't bother to replace the inverter in the first place. Now of course I'm screwed, since it's really bad timing to be without my computer right now. I guess I know where my tax incentive rebate thing is going. Bah! :(

Crunchy II has spent most of the weekend misbehaving, cutting me off from the joy juice of the internet.
I got a new laptop!!! !!!!! !!!!
...but it's not set up yet. :)

But it's so beautiful!! I'm in looooove. I'll finally be able to do things again most of us take for granted, like, oh, listen to music, play Zoo Tycoon, watch DVDs, and run IM programs without the whole thing crashing. *pets the box containing the new laptop* My... preciousssssss.

I also got a photobucket account.

Catnap! )

Full steam ahead!

The ebayed AC adaptor showed up today, and there was much cheer and rejoicing at House of Ace as the little green light came on in my laptop & it rejoined the land of the living once again. About twenty minutes later, it spontaneously turned itself off again as I very carefully moved it from the coffee table to the floor. Then it was back. Then it was gone. Now it's back.

What this means: the connection between adaptor & laptop seems to be a little loose and I can't move the laptop at all if I want it to stay on. "Oh, if only I still had a working battery!" I moaned to myself, "Wait a minute... just like I got this adaptor off ebay, why, I bet I could... ebay... a battery... I... I... fuck." Minutes later, I had a bid in for a battery, for a fraction of its "new" cost.

"It's really pissing you off that you didn't think of ebaying a battery earlier," my friend said when I told this story. "How do you know that?" I countered. "Oh, I can just tell," he responded. Too true. Why didn't I think of it earlier? Sometimes, I'm just not that smart.

I'm going to do all kinds of online stuff later, including a meme, email, and some game stuff. Right now, I've got to get some work done. :/

Well, as of last night, my sad little laptop is now officially a very, very, very small desktop that no longer turns on. Yes, after the battery died its final death, the AC adaptor soon followed. All attempts to ressucitate have failed.

I could spend $99 on a new adaptor and $150 on a new battery OR go out and spend about $700 on a brand new laptop that's about 5,000 times better than what I have currently. Decisions, decisions. In the meantime, I have ebayed an interim adaptor for $15.

It is time to win the lottery. Thank you, please.

Someday, I'll catch up on my flist.

In other news, my laptop is now officially a very, very, very small desktop. *sigh*

More later.

Crunchy II (my laptop) has been having a lot of keyboard problems, so I took it to the shop and have been fucking around on Crunchy I (my old laptop). Crunchy I has very similar keyboard problems to Crunchy II, and it's infuriating to try and get around keys that don't work. Who knew that we use the "U" key so much?!!

Anyway, the shop didn't fix Crunchy II, but gave it back to me in the meantime. Naturally, all the problems have gone away and it's working perfectly, but they've already ordered the new keyboard, so what's a girl to do?! Eventually, after sinking tons of money into fixing Crunchy II, I'll probably buckle down and purchase Crunchy III. What can I say -- I ride those babies hard and put them away wet.

I have been cleaning and organizing the apartment. I seem to really enjoy dancing around in the living room! Thank god I've found all the secret cameras...

This is going to be one of those boring ramble-a-thons.

The weekend is technically over, though actually I am not sure. The clock on Crunchy II (like most of Crunchy II) is whacked. At one point, it was lagging about 45 minutes, now it suddenly has sped up and is fast. Oh, well, not really important.

I need a new computer. )

Frivolous Friday... )

Strange Saturday... )

Sleepy Sunday... )

Anyway... I've camped out here for long enough.

All of these wonderful people are sending me email. They have fascinating names like Damon Bennett, Tamika Bowman, Alicia Trevino, Shelly Correa, Phil Hyatt, Carlo Berry, Ahmad Dill, Derrick Torres, Wilda Andersen... and they're very concerned about me. They want to make sure that I get a good mortgage rate and that my printer never runs out of ink. They're concerned about my medications and want to help me get my diploma. They're just there to help me find the best deal! I love these people.

But the thing that excites me the most (as [ profile] vaznetti knows) is this promise that my "member" could increase in length and in girth. If I keep taking these natural penis enlargement pills, I might be able to go on the carnie circuit by the end of the month. SWEET!

Feel the power of magnetic therapy!

So -- yesterday, despite my 20 filters, and my ever-vigilant virus-scanners, I got spam that proceeded to explode my Eudora. I've fixed it, but this really really pisses me off. I'm now going to be checking all my email via webmail before I download it, because I'm not going to be taking any more chances, ever.

Why I'm a cranky beaoootch! )

Well, off to be cranky outside the house. Wish me luck!

I'm going to do one of those massive entries where I post about everything you ever wanted to know about what I've done lately (but were too afraid to ask).

Today's accomplishments:

No more geocaching inside my mouth! )

Also, I am a computer genius! )

And before that...

There's no bench there. )

And before that...

Drink! )

Having now abused the LJ-CUT in new and unusual ways, I bid you all good night.
