aceofkittens: (muahahah)
This is an actual exchange I just had with my mom:

Mom: "I can't believe they named their child Stark."
Me: "You mean like Ned Stark?"
Mom: "No. S-T-A-R-K, like the bird that delivers babies."
Me: "That's a STORK. With an O."

I was immediately compelled to create the following:

Muahah )
Thank you, I will be here all week.

My mom spontaneously came to visit over the weekend, which was awesome, but made the weekend very busy, since I already had some other plans, including a wedding shower. The funniest moment during her visit was when I came out into the living room and found her dusting. I said: "What are you doing?" She said, "I'm looking at your knick-knacks." I said, "MOM! We look with our EYES, not with our HANDS!" :) After denying she was dusting, she finally cracked and said, "Well, if you're going to have knick-knacks, you should take better care of them!" :) Hi-larious!

Unfortunately, I seem to fail at snail. I had my first work-snail fatality, followed by the realization that the bowl was exuding a foul stench. It proved to be that the water plant is rotting. I don't know if it's because it needs running water or some other reason, but I guess I'm probably going to have to get a real tank if I'm going to keep these snails. What this also means is that my home-snails are probably going to be doing even worse, since their bowl is smaller and the plant is probably dead there too (though I haven't noticed a stench). I cleaned the bowl and replaced the water in the meantime, and they are all exploring their newly-clean world happily and climbing up the rigging in the pirate ship.

Tonight is a work happy hour... all I can say is:

[livejournal.com profile] invisiblebf's mom is unexpectedly coming up from San Diego! Ack! Back to frenzied cleaning! :)

Pretty soon, with all this scouring and sorting, the apartment may be ready for a party!!!
aceofkittens: (25 lbs of flour)
My mom is here — yay!

Through the Herculean efforts of [livejournal.com profile] invisiblebf, who spent something like 7 hours scrubbing the floors with a toothbrush, the apartment is now clean and sparkly enough to have gotten high accolades and approval from my mom. Yay + infinity! [livejournal.com profile] invisiblebf is a star. Tonight, he will cook us dinner and I can't wait. Maybe he'll even post about it in his own LJ. Hint, hint.

Meanwhile, the infamous pantry moths have been flitting around and I decided to find the source. Hello, skin-crawling, hackle-raising moth infestation of my whole-wheat flour. Good-bye, everything in the baking cupboard... again.

I think my mom and I will go to the Getty after we get some coffee. After that, who knows! :)
aceofkittens: (bad mood)
Quite frequently, I have pretty weird/bad dreams. I have to write down last night's here.
As they turn your dreams to sheep )
Then I finally woke up. :) Thanks for your help, [livejournal.com profile] vaznetti! I'm sure we totally defeated Count Dracula!
aceofkittens: (woohoo!)
I'm going to copy [livejournal.com profile] futureboy's style and do a little "Weekend in review" thing with highlights & lowlights.

My weekend in review )
That is all! :)

The weekend was a mixed bag. Gonna groove it all night long )

Boxes

Having spent the greater part of last week packing stuff into boxes, I think I'm ready to come to terms with a dark truth about myself -- I really love things to put other things into. Boxes, both decorative, and utilitarian. Containers with lids (plastic or otherwise). Cute little things that can be stacked. Banker's boxes with dividers, for papers and files. I love them all! (I also enjoy climbing inside them -- further evidence that I'm either part cat or all insanity.)

I tried to confess this to my mom, and she said: "I don't get it. Why do you need more things to put other things into? Why not just throw away the stuff you don't need?" This is a good question. In my mom's mind, it's all "clutter." In my mind, there's a vast difference between loose, free-range clutter and clutter lovingly arranged into boxes.

Does anyone else need help packing their stuff? ;)

Mom Update

Well, this afternoon was my mom's latest doctor's appointment/X-rays. Luckily, it seems that the break actually is healing the way it's supposed to, so she got her huge cast removed and now she has this big orthopedic strap-on boot. It allows her greater mobility and she can start putting a bit of weight on that leg as early as the weekend. She's supposed to use crutches at first, then over the course of the next few weeks, wean herself off the crutches and put more and more weight on the leg (slowly). She's still not allowed to drive or do anything too strenuous, but it's good news, and I'm hopeful. And I'm very happy for her, too, and I think she's going to have a better attitude now. Maybe. Right. We'll see...

So, this afternoon, I went and got some pussy with a bunch of guys... ;)

(Those of you who know me RL should know by now that no, I don't get tired of making the same stupid joke, again and again, and again and again!! :)

Millions of k1tt105... )

No details forthcoming here about the new kitty til I find out her new official name, but I totally am ready to take some pics. She's a real beauty.

First of all, thanks to everyone who commented & emailed, etc. or talked to me or whatever. I will try to answer everyone personally, but I'm really tired and spazzed out right now, so this lame mass thank you is it for now. :)

My mom's home from the hospital (she only had to stay overnight) and seems to be doing much better. She's looking at a lengthy recovery period, and her leg hurts like hell. But she's not taking the heavy duty painkillers... because she's insane. I told her: "Let me have some of that!" :) No luck with that either.

I forgot to mention earlier that my other triumph (aside from retraining the cats) is that the "soup table" is now gone! Only [livejournal.com profile] toastmantom will get that.

So, basically, that is where I'm at.

Left the house @ 10 a.m. to take my mom to a various array of tests & then the hospital for her surgery. Spent all day except for a 1.5 hour lunch break hanging around the hospital. Came home @ 10 p.m. to a house full of starving cats & poo/puke everywhere. My mom's surgery went ok, but she's still at the hospital; they're keeping her overnight. She reacted rather poorly to the general anaesthesia. I am fortunately much too tired to be really freaking out.

I really have a hard time with hospitals.

Sleep now.

Mom update: Bad news. Her leg re-broke and she's going into surgery tomorrow to get a plate put into her bone. :(

What this means: I'll be up in SF for at least another week, if not longer.

While sitting in the waiting room, I had the urge to write something. This rarely happens to me.

This is the result. )

Think of it what you will.

The only good thing about my mom breaking her leg is that over the last 5 days, I have successfully weaned the cats away from their self-imposed exiles in the very scary, very dark, very filled with cans of paint & paint thinner garage. The littlest cat (10 lbs), who had made the insulation-covered heating pipes her new "live-work loft space" is now back in her old office under the sink in the kitchen.

I just really don't think that the cats should be living in the garage. I mean, sure, they loved it because of all the nooks, crannies, and boxes. But in my opinion, it was only a matter of time before one of them either dove under the wheels of the car, or ate one of the numerous toxic substances there. I've been arguing about this with my mother for months. But she had contacted a pet psychiatrist who told her to "respect the cats' decision to stay in the garage."

So for me, this dark cloud has one small silver lining. My mom's actually doing pretty well, all things considered. It's an unpleasant break, but hopefully she won't be in the cast for longer than 8 weeks.

Quiz goodness. The battle cry of AoK:

How is it these quizzes understand me so well? )

In other news, my mom's broken leg has been set and is in a big honkin' cast. She's ok, just really pissed. She's got crutches, a wheelchair, and a lot of anger management issues. I'll be playing (Naughty) nurse for a week, at least. So far, so volatile. Yesterday, we made a promise to stop screaming at one another; let's see how long that lasts. I think I'm going to start tippling on the sly every night.

Gahhh

Gaaaah.

Good news... )

Bad News... )

Mehh.

My lack of updating of late has more to do with LJ than with myself. I've actually tried to update several times this week, and the bugger's been down. A sign from on high? Or, a fiendish plot to keep my life's little mysteries mysterious? You be the judge, gentle readers!

Birds... )

Beasts... )

And Relatives. )

That is all. Another fun filled weekend of drunken debauchery awaits... someone else.

All of these wonderful people are sending me email. They have fascinating names like Damon Bennett, Tamika Bowman, Alicia Trevino, Shelly Correa, Phil Hyatt, Carlo Berry, Ahmad Dill, Derrick Torres, Wilda Andersen... and they're very concerned about me. They want to make sure that I get a good mortgage rate and that my printer never runs out of ink. They're concerned about my medications and want to help me get my diploma. They're just there to help me find the best deal! I love these people.

But the thing that excites me the most (as [livejournal.com profile] vaznetti knows) is this promise that my "member" could increase in length and in girth. If I keep taking these natural penis enlargement pills, I might be able to go on the carnie circuit by the end of the month. SWEET!

Feel the power of magnetic therapy!

So -- yesterday, despite my 20 filters, and my ever-vigilant virus-scanners, I got spam that proceeded to explode my Eudora. I've fixed it, but this really really pisses me off. I'm now going to be checking all my email via webmail before I download it, because I'm not going to be taking any more chances, ever.

Why I'm a cranky beaoootch! )

Well, off to be cranky outside the house. Wish me luck!
