In addition to being procrastinating cat, I am also exceedingly grumpy.

Two great emotions that go great together.

Let's make some small talk, LJ. Hey, did you all know Harrison Ford has a new movie coming out? No, me neither. It looks about as good as Six Days, Seven Nights. I can't believe how much I used to admire that man.

Ummm... what else can we talk about. How about those Giants? Do you think they'll win the pennant this year? Oh wait. Right.

Now I slither offline and procrastinate some more.

Just rolled in from the midnight show of Indiana Jones...

Hmm... )
aceofkittens: (bad mood)
It was probably all the alcohol we had last night, but I had some spectacularly awful nightmares. And it really shouldn't have been like that, because we watched Ratatouille and various scenes from the LOTR movies, but no, instead of processing it into cute dreams about rats and LOTR porn, my brain decided to delight me with some viscerally painful stuff. Let's just say that the LEAST painful of these dreams involved me driving a motorcycle that was manual transmission (I know... what?!) and then crashing it somewhere in downtown LA and skidding on my face along the pavement. I'd say this dream was because Chip was biting my face to get me to feed him, but I was already awake for that.

Shockingly, we didn't feel so great this morning, but because white people like farmers' markets, [livejournal.com profile] invisiblebf and I forced ourselves out of the house and walked over to the farmers' market down the street. Amongst other things, I bought a yam. Help me out here, [livejournal.com profile] pokiedot & [livejournal.com profile] fairyarmadillo, how long does it take to cook one of those? ;)

On the walk over and back, we rehashed what happened last night. [livejournal.com profile] invisiblebf encapsulated it perfectly: "It's hard to recreate the evening without the trail of text messages."

Noooooo kidding.

I'm self-conscious about this first line, because I just remembered about that meme where you post the first line from every month for the past year.

I'm sort of in a daze, barely able to keep up with LJ. I've been down in the doldrums for a while now and can't seem to shake it. However, there are some positive things:

  • I have finished decorating my new cube at work. It is a thing of beauty. I will take pictures and post them.
  • Got to see [livejournal.com profile] missorangegirl down here in LA... mad laughs and pomegranate martinis!
  • Going to see The Golden Compass tonight at midnight and again next week with [livejournal.com profile] vaznetti
  • [livejournal.com profile] vaznetti is coming to visit next week! Yay!!!
  • Chip is the best! :)
  • aceofkittens: (do not want!)
I went to see Stardust and one of the previews was for the travesty that will be the new movie based very loosely on Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising, which happens to be one of my favorite books. It is now called The Seeker: The Dark is Rising, because... well, I don't know why. I can't even begin to describe what an utter shitpile this looks like it's going to be.

[livejournal.com profile] vaznetti, if I could have called you from the theatre, howling in outrage, I would have.

    DO NOT WANT!!!! :(

    Waldo has peppered!

I'm so happy! They're so small and cute, these little green peppers. So adorable! And my potatoes are mighty. I don't think I've ever had potato plants this robust.

    Pics )

Also, I finally saw Howl's Moving Castle, which is one of the only books by Diana Wynne Jones that I haven't read. The movie was great, right up until the end, when it stopped making sense.

    Ho hum

I'm glad I'm not the type of person who makes written to-do lists. It feels like the weekend zipped past with nothing to show for it and nothing got done. I didn't even make any of the phone calls I was going to make. (Hey, Canadian and/or European, Antipodean, etc. etc. people, who wants me to give you a call? I've got a pre-paid int'l calling card that's going to go to waste unless I use it in the next week. ;)

I will let myself off the hook for today, because for most of the day, I had the worst headache I've ever had in my entire life. It felt like someone was poking into my eyes with knitting needles. I pretty much had to lie in a darkened room with my eyes closed until about 8 pm.

    Other weekend excitement includes:
  • watched Bride & Prejudice on cable — loved it!
  • played newly purchased games: Mario Double Dash & DDR Max 2
  • ate Chinese food, drank rum & OJ
  • buttocks hurt from going to the gym

If I were smart, I'd go to bed right now to avoid destroying the work week. Nah...
  • aceofkittens: (hmm)
Life ekes along. Went and saw Pride & Prejudice last night. I know some people hated it, but I enjoyed it. I'm not a huge Austen freak, and though I read the book, it was a really long time ago, so I couldn't tell how faithful (or not) it was being. So I liked it. Pretty scenery! Long moony pans of Keira Knightley's dreamy face. Good times, good times.

Now I'm waiting for the landlord to show up to finally finish fixing the window which has been broken since last January. It's not that I need to let him in — on the contrary, he has keys to the apartment, and a nasty tendency to let himself in without asking. So I'm a little worried Chip might escape. Chip has taken a grave interest in the outside world lately.

Instead of doing anything useful, I'm just zoning. Zzzzzzz.

Oh, my dreams continue to rage on, though. I had a long and involved dream about Siegfried and Roy last night. There was a long riff in the middle of that about Roy Orbison ("wrapped in clingfilm") and then Roy told me his last name is really Hauk (as in "Ren Hauk"). A lot of it centered on a cut-glass sculpture of Roy's face. Don't ask. Just pass me that bottle. :)
    aceofkittens: (hmm)
I can't watch Sean Connery in any movie without adding a subliminal SNL soundtrack. "Suck it, Trebek!" :)

However, I am now compelled to re-read all of my favorite Jules Verne novels. If only my limited attention span can withstand it...

She had nothing left to say, so she said she loved me
I stood there, grateful for that lie...

    --Gin Blossoms, "Lost Horizons"

I don't know why I haven't been in a very LJ mood of late, but I'm also terrifically busy, which seems to be going around. Today is Groundhog Day, which is actually also one of my two favorite movies of all time, and I'd almost take the time out to watch it again, except I'm just too busy.

And that's pretty much all I have time for.
    aceofkittens: (Default)
I don't know what it is, but it seems like almost every time I go to the movies, I end up sitting near the annoying people who will talk loudly and stupidly through the entire film. Lately, this has been filling me with incredible amounts of rage (probably because going to see a movie w/ popcorn and a drink now costs more money than I've made this year).

I rant about people who talk during movies. )

I'm just filled with Xmas spirit. Really.
    aceofkittens: (Default)
Happy holidays. My big holiday is New Years, so I'm sure I'll be more filled with fizz and good cheer and all that next week.

    In the meantime:

ROTK (spolery): More thoughts on why the Eowyn/Witch King moment was flat )

I wanted to rant about movie-going experiences and some other stuff, but am now too tired. Hopefully, Santa will like the milk and cookies I left out... or the ants will.

I thought I would chime in with some movie reviews. After all, everyone's a critic... so why should I be left behind! :) For all of you spoiler whores (*cough* [livejournal.com profile] kristenk2 :) *cough*), I'll be sure to reveal all kinds of detail and spoiler-ific info!

Lost in Translation -- no real spoilers! )

My, that was so very high-brow! Well, let's quickly move on.

The Haunted Mansion -- spoilers! )

But I know what people really are dying to know about is my opinion of ROTK. So, here it is:

My review of ROTK -- spoilers! )

Having now written the longest LJ entry ever, I now go to slay some people on the game.

Relationships, I've been told, require compromise and sacrifice. This is why you might have to suffer through a painful set of cat stories, go to bed before 10 when your normal bedtime is 1, or put out every six months or so: to keep your loved one happy.

This is also how it came to pass last night that I sat through Master and Commander: The Longest Movie in the World.

Why I had no interest in this film. At all. )

    Anyway.

Spoilers. Warning: I'll reveal all kinds of plot points! :) )

    And that is all.
    aceofkittens: (Default)
After reading a rave review in [livejournal.com profile] trystbat's journal, I nagged my mom into letting me rent Monsoon Wedding. I was hoping for another Bend it Like Beckham, but unfortunately, was sorely disappointed by this film. Part of it may have had to do with the fact that up until the very end, I still couldn't really figure out who was related to whom, and how. I really wanted to like this movie, and I just didn't.

However, I am really craving some Indian food right about now. :)

So -- since not everyone shares my passion for the feline persuasion, I thought I'd slap up the latest array of k1tt10 pictures onto a website rather than clogging up my LJ. You can look at the photos here. :)

I spent the day shopping instead of working. Bad, bad me! I should spend the rest of the night working, but will instead spend it sleeping.

Hopefully, elves will descend upon my room during the night and finish this project for me.

Speaking of elves, apparently my SO bought this movie while on his business trip. I really just can't wait to watch this silver screen masterpiece in the near future.
    aceofkittens: (Default)
I'm not going to post any spoilers. I'm not going to give anything away. I'm just going to say that Pirates of the Caribbean is SO GOOD!

Even if "Pirates" wasn't my favorite ride at Disneyland... (next to the Indiana Jones ride) Even if my future husband, Orlando Bloom, wasn't in it... Even if my future other husband, Johnny Depp, wasn't in it... It's still such a FUN movie. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed myself so much at the movies.

    A minor spoiler )

So go see it already! :)
    aceofkittens: (Default)
I've had this "I ought to update" feeling for a few days now, but every time I sit down to write anything, I get distracted and end up thinking, "I'll update tomorrow!" Then, like Scarlett, I go off and make a dress out of my curtains, and watch Atlanta burning. So here's what's been going on lately:

    Dogs )

    Movies )

I think that's enough for now. Oh, and I'm still sick.
    aceofkittens: (Default)
Another has fallen to the Dark Side; [livejournal.com profile] cardoon is now among us. Soon, soon, the Toast will crumble... yes.

So, it's been a fun-filled few days, but boy, am I ever tired for some reason. I guess I'm not used to all this "leaving the house."

Friday, [livejournal.com profile] cardoon drove up from visiting her grandparents and a fun-packed day ensued. I find that I really enjoy having visitors, now that I have my fabulous guest room. There's just something about being able to give people their own space. Anyway, first, I dragged her to Venice to feed my precious ducks and see my darling Black-crowned night heron. Then we wandered all over Venice Beach. I was hoping that the freaks would be out in full force, but it was so windy, we were eating sand and grit & the freaks were in hiding. So, after a coup purchase of some shoes, and dinner at Junior's Deli, we went on to Santa Monica.

How Skee-Ball is Dangerous To Your Health! )

Why did she take Jessminder's shoes? )

This entry is so full of links! Kind of makes you sick, doesn't it!

Well, I am not sure what is on the agenda for tonight and tomorrow. [livejournal.com profile] cardoon has left and that means I can retreat back into my Fortress of Solitude.
    aceofkittens: (Default)
The Two Towers -- fourth time was the charm. Or, well, fifth time, as the show we went to see was sold out. But the next one wasn't sold out.

I wouldn't consider myself a Tolkien fan. Much to people's surprise, I've never even read the LOTR books. The Hobbit is about where I left off. So I'm pretty hopeless as far as that's concerned. I don't know my Galadriel from my Glorfindor.

But -- wow. That is one impressive film. I'd like to see it again. And Legolas is so my new husband. He kicks ass in this film. He is the prettiest.
