Since this is what I always think about whenever I make the first of my typical two posts each month, I'm going to start off January's copious postings with the meme where I go through all of last year's posts and c/p the first line for your amusement. So meta, amirite?

Notably, this was the first time I genuinely forgot a couple of times and didn't make some inane unlocked post as my first post of the month. As a result, I had to suppress one of the entries, but oh well! I present...

YEAR IN REVIEW: 2012

Go to your Calendar and find the first (public) entry for each month of 2012. Post the first line of it in your journal, and that's your "Year In Review."

January: I just discovered that the "new" LJ comment style somehow magically restores all of my user icons that are currently locked because I didn't want to pay extra for the add-on.
February: The laptop has a virus (or thirty).
March: I'm back in the endless cycle of "I really should post more / I have so much I want to talk about / but I have no time / oh look, now it's two weeks later."
April: Deep thought for the day: I don't miss volunteering with the cat rescue people, but I sure do miss seeing kittens.
May: I get to go to Vegas on Tuesday for work!
June: First World Problems, I know, but I'm irritated by the fact that I no longer seem to get any notifications on LJ — nor do I get to see most people's FB posts, no matter how many settings I tweak to make sure that, in fact, I am getting to see everyone's posts.
July: I've decided that it's my moral imperative to make sure all of you come with me to an Old 97's concert at least once.
August: Honestly, I have no idea how I'm going to survive being in Vegas for a week in September for work.
September: Here's the thing: if I had gone to Burning Man this year, I would be missing the Old 97's at the Fillmore tomorrow night.
October: This was a friends-locked entry and I'm not comfortable posting its first line.
November: Guess what, I still suck at updating, which shouldn't be a surprise, but I really was on a roll there for a while.
December: I need new black boots and I need them fast.

I like how some themes are a constant, no matter the year—Vegas, the Old 97's, and, of course, my hollow promises of posting more. :)

Honestly, I have no idea how I'm going to survive being in Vegas for a week in September for work. I fear that I may lose my liver for good.

I get to go to Vegas on Tuesday for work! This is exciting. And it calls for a poll!

[Poll #1838780]

Let's discuss! :)
aceofkittens: (shit happens)
I don't know whether it's the fact that my ever-dwindling attention span is now only able to keep up with Facebook/Twitter, or simply that my love affair with LJ is finally coming to an end. I just know that I really shouldn't have wasted the money on that paid account renewal.

Some notable stuff from May through July:
+ Rescued some adorable kittens
+ Got to go to the annual [livejournal.com profile] toastmantom Memorial Day Weekend BBQ
- Got very ill at the annual [livejournal.com profile] toastmantom Memorial Day Weekend BBQ
+ Visits to LA by [livejournal.com profile] mzsa, [livejournal.com profile] mittenz, [livejournal.com profile] wyckhurst, and [livejournal.com profile] eto_theipi
+ Went to the beach twice
+ The ants have gone away
+ Went to both a Rhett Miller concert and an Old 97's concert
+ Went to a great concert at the Hollywood Bowl
+ Went to Infected Mushroom and remembered to bring earplugs
- Inexplicable sudden total irrecoverable failure of my laptop's hard drive
- I am an idiot who does not make regular backups :(
- All my photos from 2008-2009 are now lost forever, along with all my music and all my writing
+ A friend gave me a replacement hard drive for free!!!!!
+ I still love my Sidekick
- It's having problems with the headset, so phone conversations have dwindled
+ Celebrated our 4th Chip-a-versary on July 19/20th!!!!
+ Chip seems to be doing really well
- Chip is misbehaving horribly every morning, clawing and biting me as early as 5 a.m. in his quest for food
+ Going to Vegas this weekend for [livejournal.com profile] bigkgbguy's annual birthday party!!!

Well, that about sums it up.
aceofkittens: (one step at a time)
I dreamed last night that [livejournal.com profile] toastmantom and I were supposed to perform two sets in a club. The talent scout was coming for the second set. After we finished the first one, I went upstairs, while Toasty and a bunch of other people worked on making the punch for the Memorial Day Party. I went for a drive in Baltimore with my mom and some other people, and saw there were a lot of really really tall trees with large grapefruit hanging down. "There's pomegranates, too!" said the driver, whoever he was, and after I unsuccessfully tried to take one off a tree (it turned out to be a strawberry), we returned to the club to discover that Toasty was now too drunk to perform a second set so our big chance at stardom was ruined. Boy, was I mad! The dream went on into other directions, but that was the best part.

By the way, neither [livejournal.com profile] toastmantom nor I are musicians.

But here's what's really going on - tl;dr )

Sigh

We came back this evening from Vegas to discover the house overrun with ... Ants! Ants! Ants! It's particularly gross this time — they are all over Chip's water dish, as well as other unlikely locations.

Chip himself is still at the clinic where we boarded him and the place feels weird and lonely without him.

Also, I'm going to Baltimore Tue-Thu. It's going to be a long week.

I'm tired.

Last night, I was in Mandalay again... ;)

I finally went into Red Square and had a drink. My drink was just ok, but everyone else's was terrific. But, it really riled me up to see that they infuse Moskovskaya vodka and charge $13 per shot. That's the vodka I tend to infuse and the whole bottle costs $7.99 at Trader Joe's! :) Some day, some day, I will have my own vodka bar.

We also went into Rum Jungle, and I can definitely cross that one off my list as well. The music did not impress, the food is for meat lovers! But, it's all good... we are having a grand old time. :)

On the agenda for today: drinks by the pool and maybe one final visit to Quark's bar before they close off The Star Trek Experience on September 1.

I got my broken phone fixed up again today. It is a flip-phone once again and it no longer turns itself off spontaneously. However, I think everyone is right, and that my next phone shouldn't be a flip-phone. Say what you will about my old brick-like phone, but I had it for like... 5 years. The flip phones just don't last very long, the way I use them.

Kind of like laptops. Though my current one has lasted (knock on wood) almost two years.

I'm too sleepy and Vegas-stupid to say anything interesting. Good night.

At some point today, I will be going to Las Vegas.

If someone wants a postcard, post your address in a comment. :) I'll screen them so they're invisible.

Ponch and Jon are on TV! I've never seen this show before. It frightens me with its California Highway Patrol goodness. Why are these people the heroes of the show? They're the ones who give out tickets. Is this irony? And people are dancing disco... on roller skates.

All kinds of odd thoughts are going through my head.
  • I am no longer in constant pain from my various violations of the other day, except my arm just looks kind of disgusting. I will wear the scars proudly, however. By tomorrow, I think all the lingering pain will go away.
  • I'm thinking about making another poll.
  • The next time I go out of town to an undisclosed location, I think I'll be more upfront about it, so when the huge inevitable online disaster strikes, people will have less of a hassle trying to reach me. On the other hand, I don't really always feel like sharing my RL movements with the denizens of netland. Gotta strike that balance, I guess!

Now it's like 3 hours later, but I'm too lazy to do anything about the outdated information.
