I am currently fostering this gorgeous 4-year old Maine Coon mix. I am certain one of you people might want him. ;)

About two weeks ago, the cat rescue group with which I am involved (Give Me Shelter) asked me if I could foster a cat called Joey. Joey had been at the Peninsula Humane Society, where he had stopped eating and developed hepatic lipidosis. He had to be tube fed, and though he had recovered, and was now eating on his own, he wasn't fully out of the woods. He needed to have some peace and quiet and regain his strength. He is doing better, though I think he still has some emotional trauma due to whatever happened with him before. I think he may have been abused, because sometimes he will flinch if you reach towards him.

Joey didn't seem very dignified as a name — he is a lot more regal. We have temporarily renamed him Ghost, because he moves as quickly and silently as a gray ghost. :) However, he is far from silent — this guy is a talker. I am fairly certain that he was an indoor/outdoor cat, because he definitely wants to go outside. He gets very, very anxious when confined to small spaces and definitely does better when given more room to roam. Other than that, Ghost is a real sweetie — he sits on us and purrs and gives kitty headbutts and makes biscuits and will pretty much let us cuddle him up into a pretzel. He is eating well (though has a wet food aversion, so only eats dry food) and seems to have gained some weight. He's all fluff! Look at all that fluff! Look at that raccoon-tail! :)

Ghost has been getting along well with my cat (who hasn't been as thrilled to have a house guest), but he is not happy here. Even when I give him free range throughout our place, he is very restless. He paces, cries, and claws at the door. He needs to be in a really big house where he can wander around freely. He may be even happier if there's some sort of enclosed patio where he can go outside.

Let me know if you want to meet him or know someone who wants a Maine Coon mix. I can tell you more about him.

Oh, he is magnificent! I love Maine Coons as a breed... So patient and intelligent and at the same time total attention sluts and hams.

I wish my mom could take him. She has a Maine Coon named Wolfgang who is probably this cat's soul mate, but she's already got 3 others in addition to Wolfie. I'd take him but my place is way too small and there's no way in hell he'd be able to go outside onto a busy street. :-/

He is a total little sweetheart. If he wasn't so obviously anxious and restless and miserable, I would consider keeping him. But it's been nearly two weeks, and he still paces constantly, crying and looking for something (I've wondered if he is looking for his former owners. Who knows. Poor little guy!).

You know, Wolfie was a rescue kitty and he used to do the exact same thing. He'd pace and cry and pace and cry and cry and pace... It was hard in the beginning, but once he moved in with my mom, it suddenly stopped. Part of it could have been that with me he was an indoor-only cat and when he went to my mom's, she began letting him be indoor/outdoor. Also he latched on to my mother like a barnacle and since she's home almost constantly now that she's retired, he's gotten VERY relaxed. The only time he cries now is when my mom is out of town, or in a room he can't get into.

It's driving me crazy. :D If I lock him in his room, he will cry and bang on the door and tear up the carpet. If I go in there with him, he will give me kitty lovings for a minute, then go to the door and cry and claw at the door. If I let him out into the garage, he will go to the top of the stairs and sit there crying and scratching on the door. If I let him in upstairs, he will pace around and cry, then go back to the door and tear up the carpet, and try to go back down. I think he feels displaced. :(

Sif being the cat who's terrified of everything, but will happily and shamelessly flop on the floor like a dust mop, four paws in the air, waiting to be belly rubbed.

He fearlessly approached my giant Chip-timus Prime, who promptly beat him down. :D But Ghost was undeterred. He didn't even hiss or anything. :)

Oh what a huge love! I'm sending this to mom too. She can't say no to that tail.
Smooches to the best Irina in the history of Irinas!
