I just discovered that the "new" LJ comment style somehow magically restores all of my user icons that are currently locked because I didn't want to pay extra for the add-on. So that's very exciting to me! They're still not available if I say, make a post, or comment in the old style. But it's like a tiny little New Year's present. I liked a lot of those icons - there was no rhyme or reason as to which got "frozen" and which I got to keep.
