Trainwreck

The new Old 97's record is out today and I can't wait to have it playing on an endless loop for the rest of the summer.

Sample lyrics:

You wonder what’s the deal?
You’ve gotta fake it til it’s real
There is no benefit to doubt
You’ve got to let it all hang out
I say I love you, what the heck
I’m a trainwreck

Some days, those guys are just about the only thing that keeps me going.

Ummm...

I'm drinking red wine. Some of you know why this is a BAD IDEA.

Daryl is here cooking us dinner!!!

We're watching the GNR videos. Axl used to be so young and hot. What happened?

P.S. I may be really drunk. And I would drunk dial all of you, BUT my phone is dead. It's in two pieces... again.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] toastmantom, this is for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsJDK9MCCYs

Russell Fucking Crowe, on stage with Great Big Sea at the House of Blues tonight. Singing "Folsom Prison Blues." (ETA: Youtube link, until they take it down

Even better, [livejournal.com profile] invisiblebf and [livejournal.com profile] setmosis six beers gone.

Ass shaker! ASS SHAKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did I mention: RUSSELL FUCKING CROWE? GLADIATOR (No, but she was!) "My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."

[livejournal.com profile] sassycat8 and I are now drunk. Bring on the flying elves.

P.S. PINK DOT is the best source for random sandwiches and pretzels.

There are many thoughts brewing in my head, but, they keep whirling around and around, like a kid inside a revolving door.

"Revolving Door" by Annie Bethancourt is my favorite song right now. Check it out on Archive.org here. All her other songs are great too. She rocked live as well.

That's my PSA. Go listen. I'll be over here, percolating.
aceofkittens: (consumer whore)
Over the weekend, a new MP3 player was purchased for me by MIB. It is a SanDisk® Sansa with 1G capacity. It's so cute and I think I can make playlists and everything. Yay!

Of course, it's enough for me just to own it — I didn't open it nor program it. Just like my Mr. Bento lunchbox.
aceofkittens: (battle!)
The week blew past and I was often so busy and distracted that I didn't have time to check LJ! :) Whoah.

Suddenly, I'm in one of my "music" phases and I want to listen to music and to purchase a real MP3 player. Whoah!

And I'm now in SF at my mom's house and it's actually warm here. WHOAH!

Obviously, these are all signs of the encroaching Apocalypse...

Mix CD

How many songs do you think should go onto a mix CD/playlist? Is there a saturation level beyond which you just don't want to listen anymore?

Music meme

Since I don't listen to much music, this meme was excruciatingly difficult for me. :) But I like a challenge!

List 10 songs that begin with the letter given to you and explain why you picked them. Comment and I shall give you a letter. [livejournal.com profile] trystbat gave me an "L."

Lolly lolly lolly get your song titles here )
aceofkittens: (sad shalott)
I'm so very melancholy tonight, so gloomy about the world and the way things work in it. I wish I could believe that things will get better for us all.

Nothing is specifically wrong with my own universe. I'm just being a little melodramatic and existential. This mood shall pass.

There's a window by the bedroom door that never will be opened
If you spend the whole day looking out and never look within
And your lover and your mother and your father have been hoping
You'll find the truths you're looking for while searching deep within
So sad about me
So sad about me
So sad about me
I'm sad about you...

— Cowboy Mouth

I've barely caught on on my friends page. I've got absolutely nothing to say. I can't even think of a quiz to take or an amusing poll I could write. Which leaves... song lyrics!

All is nothing in moderation
It's a dirty feeling and it makes you stronger
Well I believe I'm just plain tired
...

Yup, that's about right. Good old Matchbox 20.

"...I did know a guy who took eight hits of acid and then said he saw God at a Metallica show... Ain't life funny, ain't life weird? I didn't even know God liked Metallica...!"

— Wally Pleasant, "On the Road"

I feel fine, but also very weird. Very weird. Very, very weird. I... yeah. Weird, but funny. Funny but weird. I guess I feel discombobulated.

I think it's time for drinking. Oh, and you'll be seeing some changes in this journal shortly.

..."Well, I'm livin' in the present with no future and no past...
I might be goin' nowhere but at least I'm gettin' there fast!
Out on the road... Destination untold... Out on the road..!

— Wally Pleasant, "On the Road"

I’m tired of boys who make me cry
They cheat on me and tell me lies
I want a love that will never stray
When he sees other girls he looks away
And if he never kisses me, that’s alright
Because we can just cuddle all night

Gay boyfriend, gay boyfriend
I don’t really care that you are queer
Gay boyfriend, gay boyfriend
I never feel lonely when you are near
La-la-la-la

It's been way too long since day drinking happened. It must happen again, and soon.

Also, I thought I'd declare amnesty day for those of you who I *know* aren't actually reading my LJ. Just set me free already. I won't be offended when you de-friend me. Of course, you'll never read this, but if you ever do, just remember: yes, I do mean you.
aceofkittens: (gorgon)
I've officially listened to the ROTK soundtrack too much. It's now playing constantly in my head even if I'm not actually listening to it. In fact, I hear it even now. The bells! The bells! I actually really thought it was on just now -- but it isn't. Just in my head!

The week has whipped past. On Wednesday, I discovered that I really just can't watch Angel anymore. I saw Christian Kane was guest starring and said, "Hey! It's... that guy... Lilah's... rival!" I couldn't remember the character's name nor really anything beyond the Evil Hand. In fact, I had a better recollection of my actual conversation with CK that I had while riding back to our cars (for those just tuning in: I used to work as a professional "background actor" aka "extra" in film and television) than of anything that he did on the show. Well, I remember now, but... Eh.

Not much else to say.

Then again, living alone has its benefits; for example, when you dance around like a crazy monkey to ancient mix tapes, no one's there to point and laugh.

Whatever happened to The Lightning Seeds? They had some damn good songs! Like "Pure!"

Warning: fluffy song lyrics ahead! )

I'm really in the mood to go jump around somewhere in public. Alas, not having any friends around puts a crimp in that plan...
aceofkittens: (Default)
Does anyone know the lyrics to that dirty sea shanty favorite, "Backside Rules the Navy?" Anyone? Anyone?

[livejournal.com profile] echristo? :)

It's driving me nuts! It's stuck in my head, but I only know like... two lines!
aceofkittens: (Default)
My mind wanders, scrabbling around all over the place... restless, like a little mouse rooting around in the scrub grasses on the side of the road.

I'm just so -- blah. I have that trapped feeling growing inside me again, which at the "height of each attack," makes me do things I shouldn't. Maybe I should listen to Cowboy Mouth; their big hit, "Jenny Says," has some words to live by: "Let it go, let it go, let it go..." But I just can't seem to.

So I went back and read one of my favorite poems, "California Hills in August," by Dana Gioia. The full text of it can be found here: http://www.danagioia.net/poems/californiahills.htm. Sort of the theme of the day, given the weather.

More October Project lyrics...

That's all there is to this cut. )

I've fixed my CD/DVD-ROM in Crunchy II!!!!! Now I can listen to music all the time & watch Father Ted.
aceofkittens: (Default)
I was going to stay offline tonight for a change of pace, but I just had to get back on to rave about October Project. This is yet another defunct band I listen to. That is to say, I listened obssessively to their second CD, "Falling Further In." I finally picked up their self-titled debut for $3 about a month ago, but my CD player in Crunchy II (my laptop) is kind of busted, so I haven't listened to it. I'm weird about music like that. Anyway, I finally popped it into the big CD player.

It probably says something that I burst into tears before the first song was even halfway through. Music, the knife without a hilt.

Here are the long lyrics to that song, which is called 'Bury My Lovely' )
...

Yeah.

There's not a single track on this CD that I don't like.

I am so stressed out that I've gone into full on "manic panic" mode, which for me means feeling queazy, being unable to sleep, and generally feeling like a cornered animal. Unfortunately, when I feel trapped like this, I have a tendency to start chewing my own arm off to escape.

Let's hope I don't go there. But, speaking of going, here's some TMI.

TMI )

In the meantime, I'm on a mission to weigh the cats. Yes, this is a k1tt10 story )

Eh, eh. Time to get more work done.

Call you up in the middle of the night
Like a firefly without a light
You were there like a blowtorch burning
I was a key that could use a little turning
So tired that I couldn’t even sleep
So many secrets I couldn’t keep
Promised myself I wouldn’t weep
One more promise I couldn’t keep...

--Soul Asylum, Runaway Train

Ramblings about music & excess baggage mercifully under LJ-CUT )

It seems no one can help me now
I’m in too deep; there’s no way out
This time I have really led my self astray

Runaway train, never going back
Wrong way on a one-way track
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Somehow I’m neither here nor there...
