My favorite band, The Old 97's, released their new CD, "Drag It Up," on Tuesday. You know what this means: I'll be quoting a lot of lyrics. ;)

I'm still getting used to this CD, though a few favorites have already lodged in my cranium. The inclusion of "Home No More" — a song for which I've been waiting for 4 years (it was supposed to be on the never-released Ranchero Brothers CD) — was enough to get me squealing like a groupie.

The Old 97's are hard to describe. Alt-country? Rockabilly? Who cares. They make great music. I owe this one to [livejournal.com profile] baogirl. :) Yay! And now, for some lyrics:

****

You're a bottlecap away from pushing me too far
Well, the problem's getting big -- and it's a compact car
So I won't feel so bad, I did all I could do.
Now I'm at Wounded Knee, and we're at Waterloo.

So please get out of my car.

I was born in the backseat of a Mustang
On a cold night, in the hard rain
And the very first song that the radio sang
It was "I Won't Be Home No More."

...

I'm pulling off the road,
I'm opening the door...
I'm giving you the pavement
I'm telling you what for!
You're no more than a thought, no more than a thought,
You're getting smaller in my rear-view mirror, getting smaller in my rear-view mirror...

I love these guys!
