It's usually around 4 a.m. when I get the uncontrollable urge to cut off all of my hair with construction paper scissors.

Instead, I baked this pie. I like to call it the "Peace Pie." Want a piece of peace pie? Ho ho. Naturally, I think I burned it. Fuck you, Peace Pie!

The crust is from this recipe I unfortunately can't fully remember. I got it from an old Russian lady and all I remember is that it's 3 of everything you put into it. It's actually supposed to be an apple cake. But I can't remember what happens after: "3 cups of flour, 3 eggs, 3 cups of sugar," so I just made the rest of it up. ;) The filling has apples, dried cherries, dried apricots, and some raisins... and some vanilla yogurt to keep it all together. And I threw in a dying banana at the last minute. I have no idea if this will taste ok or like crap. The crust has come out really sweet and a bit dense the last 2 times I made it, but I kept it in the oven too long this time.

P.S. You need to kidnap the orange kitty and run away to a better apartment. :)

i like pie,..

I am about to make another one -- what symbol should I place on top? :)

what symbol

From: [identity profile] erisreg.livejournal.com
well if your going to keep going, you could put an infinity symbol, or the ohm,. if this is the last of the batch,. or you could express your divinity with an ankh,. or you could express your sexuality with the female symbol,..;D

I pondered something that was horribly politically-incorrect (let's just say that the BBQ this is for is being hosted by a German and leave it at that), was shouted down by my conscience, and settled for merely making weird little "top of pie fake crust" bits. :)

Maybe out in California that would be OK, but they would bust me out here in NoVa :v(

Perhaps when I am an old woman in need of medicinal treatment I will venture west.

I usually don't either, except when it's for a party. :) I'm sending it to a bbq.

Also, you probably don't have 20 pounds of flour rotting on your kitchen floor... I've got to do something with that shit to justify the $5 I spent on it! :)

Was it that EasyBake oven episode ?

I don't bake either. It requires precision and following a recipe. I like to take 2-5 recipes and synthesize. That does not work when creating a muffin.

Exactly. I kinda make things up as a go (bad trend I tend to mimic in other aspects of my life). That style doesn't lend itself to anything but stir fries.

It's funny you should mention this, because I have the same problem. There was the gingerbrick (http://www.livejournal.com/users/aceofkittens/107654.html) episode, when I decided to forego the baking powder aspect of gingerbread. And as my friend mockingly pointed out, apparently when baking, you don't just mix up everything at once. Yes, seriously, apparently you mix the butter and sugar first, then you sift in the flour, eggses, and all that. WHO KNEW!?!!!!

It does actually sort of work, but the result is not what anyone expected. :) There was this time I made crepes while attempting to make a bananabread frosting...

What are you going to bake for the bakesale now? We might be the same person! Though you seem to be more of a dog person, but I could train you out of that with a rolled up newspaper...

I'll eat it burned a little you know. I can eat half of it in one sitting. The other half a peace an hour later.

I loved it. :)

Maybe I can give you some baking lessons. The thing is, you just throw things in a tin and stick it in an oven. Usually at like, 375. For a while. Then you take it out and eat it. It's like magic! I'll teach your girls how to bake too. Something easy, like eclairs.

eclairs are easy?

How do you not forget that there is something cooking at 375?

Eclairs are hard. That was irony! :) I can make the custard, sort of, and I guess I could make the shells if forced to do so. But I'm really not that patient. However, I should be able to do such things. My grandmother used to hand roll her own filo dough for Napoleon pastries. :) Sadly, I have not lived up to that legacy, and I did forget about my pie last night.

— "Didn't you say your pie had to be in there for an hour?"
— "Yes. At least an hour."
— "Well, it's been an hour and a half."
— "....BAWK!!!"

:)

Please try to make a pie that has on it the symbol from that sign beside the freeway between L.A. and San Diego--you know, the one with the silhouette immigrant family holding hands and running across the road, trying to illegally enter our great country and steal our precious menial jobs!
What a beautiful metaphor it would be...not only in the baking, but in the distribution!
