aceofkittens: (bunny)

Life just got really interesting. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about this...

This adorable rabbit was hopping around in the street where I usually park my car. After some trials and tribulations, I was able to capture the bunny and bring him inside. He is obviously very tame, so I expect that there's some kid down the street who's bawling for a lost pet bunny. So I really can't get attached.

He likes broccoli.

Here's a whole page of adorable photos I've taken this evening: BUNNY!!!

ETA:A woman called after seeing our posters. She said that had been her rabbit, and she'd given it away because it "was too destructive" to some neighborhood kid with a yard. She doesn't want the rabbit back. Now what? :/

that just seems so cute, running around trying to catch a bunny!

It wasn't that cute when I had to lie down in some broken glass to pull it out from under a car. :)

ah yes...the sacrifices each of us must make for rabbits ;)

He looks like a healthy boy.

I for some reason have been assuming it's a boy, but maybe it's a girl... I don't remember how to sex it.

If it was a boy wouldn't it have big bunny balls ?
(pardon my ignorance if not, I just know when I see Mr Squirrel, ya know he's a boy)

But then, I dunno, do you ever neuter male bunnies ?
I guess I'm pretty ignorant about pet wabbits.

Apparently, you're supposed to neuter pet rabbits. I haven't tried to see back there yet. I'm trying to get the rabbit calm enough that he/she doesn't freak out every time I try to pick it up. :)

OOOOOOHHHHH. SO CUTE. Those EARS. That cute little NOSE!

Are you making posters so that the bawling kid can find its beloved bunny? Remember, I did so for the cutest kitten ever, so it can be done.

Even if one is kicking and screaming every bit of the way.

Posters

The trouble with that is that the street where the bunny was found is that street parallel to the freeway, and as I recently discovered, there are at least 2 sex offenders living in that block. So I'm kind of wary of posting a picture, having someone lie "Oh yes, that's my rabbit." For obvious reasons! But a poster (without photo) has been made. They'll have to prove it's their bunny!

He is very adorable. :) He was nibbling on me lasst night!

I updated the entry with the latest on the poster. Sadly, not as happy an ending as yours.

Let the bunny loose in her apartment when she's not there, and hope it gnaws everything into piles of sawdust. People are SO IRRESPONSIBLE.

:(

Look for a responsible owner?

Apparently, it's nigh impossible to get a rabbit into a "Rescue" group right now. And taking it to the pound = death. The woman begged us not to take him to the pound. I wanted to say, "Um, you kind of lost all claim to this bunny when you let that kid have him."

I think he is a Holland Lop! :)

hm. She dared say anything to you about what you should do? What a pathetic creep.

Blacklist her.

No one you know needs a cute fluffy bunny with big floppy ears? How is that possible? How to resist?

Well, it's not entirely her fault that she gave him away to a bad 15 yo kid. Given to how much trouble it seems to be to place a rabbit in a good home, I can understand that she might have been swayed by hearing this kid had a yard. Though domestic bunnies should be kept inside.

Now I am afraid that the kid will try to reclaim the bunny. Then what?

I'm surprisingly not as keen on keeping him myself as you would expect from me.

bunnies are adorable. But they're not quite cats. By a long shot.

A bunny that looks like that should not be in a yard. Period. Except under supervision, maybe, every so often when it occurs to the owner. It's INSANITY to put it in a yard. Ye gads. A big, bossy cat comes along.....????? *#***##**#? !!!!!

Yah, well that is my two cents worth. Dunno what to say that might be helpful. One always seems to get extra responsibilities when least expected/convenient.

Man, I am exhausted. :( No permanent home for the bunny in sight. He is definitely not litter trained. He likes to poop/pee on the futon...

Yet he is so sweet and adorable. And he likes to run around me in circles and jump on me, then hump my head...

Ah. Having one's head humped by a bunny. Can't think of anything more enjoyable.....

Must, be. GOOD!...

Not as much as I would be if it were a cat. I haven't ever had rabbits and the experience I had with them when working for the (evil) petting zoo proved that they're really hard to take care of properly!! It's a lot of work for a fairly non-interactive animal.

YAY Bunnies!!!

They are pretty kewl, it usually takes about a year for them to warm up to someone where they let thier total personality be seen. I also love animals that pair bond. Rabbits do :)

I have been reading that the best way to own one is to rabbit-proof your home and let the bunny jump around freely. :) Yeah, right, that will happen. :)

Awwww, so cute! Lucky guy that you found him, too, so he didn't get hurt or killed.

And, i meant to say, dinner would be great. This week is horrible for me, due to the fact that not only am i working full shifts 6 out of 7 days, but at least one and possibly more will be extended shifts. More overtime but less sleep and decompression time, bleh. Maybe next week?

He is so nice. He likes to nibble on me and he loves his hay and his broccoli. I am pretty sure he is a Holland Lop.

On the other hand, rabbits are higher maintenance than cats! They chew through electrical wiring. We'd have to rabbit-proof the (small) apartment. And, and, and...

:/

I would use craigslist to try to place the bunny in a (responsible) home if I knew I wouldn't be able to give it the time and energy it needs. But this is silly advice coming from me because I'd try to keep it, even if I knew it was a bad idea. I'm the sort who'd keep it even if it was not cute and diseased.

What a quandary!

From: [identity profile] aceofkittens.livejournal.com
The trouble with craigslist, is that it's apparently filled with a) people wanting to get rid of Easter rabbits that their kids are "bored with now" and b) people trolling the free listings to find rabbits to give to their snake as food. :( Getting a bunny into a rescue group (as I am investigating) is nearly impossible right now and taking it to the pound is not something I would do.

I think it's a sign that I should be a cat masseusse like [livejournal.com profile] aerinys has always said.

It is a beautiful bunny, even if it has camped out quite long enough. I'll ask around the rabbit-friendly households I know...

p.s. Is that a new phone you called me on??

Yeah, I have a new phone, but it isn't fully functional yet. I need a few spare hours to see if they can yank the stored numbers from my broken phone...
