This morning, I was having the following dream. I dreamed that I was already at work and getting ready for my meeting. It was quite realistic. I got my coffee and some water, then thought I'd check in on the fish bowl. The water was very dirty and the fish were looking quite sick. (Sure, I don't have fish in reality, but I think this must have been the HR fish tank, now that I think about it!) I started cleaning the tank with some paper towels, being careful not spill anything, and realizing that I better hurry, because my meeting would be starting soon. Then I woke up and realized: Oh yes, I'm NOT at work, and my meeting WILL be starting soon. Noooo! So I leaped out of bed and was out the door in record time. It took me 6 minutes to drive to work like a maniac, and as I peeled in to turn into the little service road to the parking structure, I saw a bunch of bees over at the hedge. As I started turning right, I looked directly into the hedge, and actually shouted "Eeeeee!" because a swarm of bees was inside it.

At lunch, I borrowed my co-worker's camera and went down to take the bees' photograph. I thought maybe grounds maintenance would have gotten rid of them by then... but no, there they were. Bees.

A million ancient bees began to sting our knees )

Kind of crazy, huh?

I found out yesterday that another of my cousins just moved to LA literally days ago to live and work at the Museum of Jurassic Technology!!! That is so weird and so surreal. And so awesome! I can't wait to see SecondCousinOfKittens ASAP!!!

Also, tonight I saw a raccoon on the street. He was the cutest.

And, I made another soup that is too hot for anyone else to eat. That's just how I roll.

I recently got a wonderful Senseo Coffee Pod System through my magical friend, the Internet. After some deliberation, I decided to take this Senseo single cup coffee maker to work, mainly because I spend so much time at work AND the coffee at work SUCKS. Plus, I figured this way I could make nice with my coworkers — by offering them delicious cups of steaming hot Senseo coffee. By the way, did I mention this small coffee maker is a Senseo? It's actually quite good. You should get one of these coffee makers for yourself!

Anyway, I set the Senseo up last week and we had a lot of fun trying it out in my little work area, but then somehow things fell by the wayside and I didn't have any all week. But then this afternoon, things were dragging a little and Happy Hour seemed like it was hours away, because it was. I suddenly remembered that I was the proud owner of a Senseo and, hey, why not have some coffee!

So I lifted up the lid to place the coffee pods into the Senseo and... YEEEEOW! There was a giant spider in there!!! I screamed like a banshee and everyone came running to see who was murdering me. I was mortified and ashamed (for those who haven't ever heard me emit the blood-curdling "shriek of spider discovery," it is, in fact, ear-splitting) and tried to play it off like it was no big deal. In the meantime, I lost sight of the spider. So then I frantically searched for it among the papers on my desk, only to look up and see it was still sitting on the Senseo. So I screamed again. Then I took its picture. Then I screamed and flailed while taking it outside. Now everyone I work with knows thinks I'm a psycho. Not even delicious Senseo coffee will save me now! Oh well. :)

Oh, yeah, and here are pics of the rest of my cubicle for [livejournal.com profile] darthmollusc

So, yeah, that's where I work.

The perfect kitten, as everyone else knows, is just an illusion. And it doesn’t happen when you go looking for it. But the girl keeps on looking, hopeful. She always hopes that things will be different. This time, she’ll know. She’ll know that this is the moment; this is the next perfect kitten. (from my perfect kitten vignette)

The bunny is going to a no-kill bunny rescue organization. It took a lot of concentrated effort to get him placed, as there is a veritable surplus of homeless/abandoned rabbits at the moment. Apparently, it would seem that many people get a cute little bunny for their kids for Easter, then a month or two later, it proves to be "too hard" to take care of it, the kids get bored with their new pet, and voila! It's time to dump the rabbit at a shelter or hey, even better, let's just set it loose in a park somewhere so it can get ripped apart by coyotes.

God, I hate people.

It was sheer madness to contemplate keeping him, but I already miss my rabbit. Why is everything always so goddamned hard?

Life just got really interesting. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about this...

I was walking outside, basking in the sunshine, when I saw him. How could I not? His dark green/brown body was a stark contrast to the red brick of the column. I approached and stared lovingly at him. He was perfect, almost as big as my hand. I wished I had brought my camera.

Just then, someone else who works here walked past and I showed her my new true love. "Do you guys have a digital camera?" I asked. She nodded, "Yes, but I don't think my boss would want you to use it to take photographs of a grasshopper."

At that moment, in a mighty whirr of wings, he took off from the column, flying clear across the walkway in that initial bound. I watched his body gleam in the sunlight as he flew off, his wingspan as big as a hummingbird's. I knew I'd never see him again. The best love affairs are shortlived.

This afternoon, I spent an hour or two wandering around the Marina Del Rey harbor & Chace Park. I'd been hoping to see those big spooky jellyfish in the water, but had to settle for some plastic bags. As an additional unexpected treat, I did see a sad dead fish and a very dead bird. It reminded me so much of the time I wandered around Lansing with Wally and we saw a bunch of dead animals. And this other time in Las Vegas (another shout-out to Wally!), when I took a walk in 115 degree heat and saw at least 5 freshly dead birds.

But I was in neither Lansing nor Las Vegas -- it was one of those amazing LA moments -- glorious warm weather, bright blue skies, nary a breeze. It felt like a lazy summer vacation day. The sleepy smell of sunshine is still clinging to my skin.

There are so many good things about LA. It's too bad that I can't afford most of them and don't really tend to have many days like this.
