This morning, I was having the following dream. I dreamed that I was already at work and getting ready for my meeting. It was quite realistic. I got my coffee and some water, then thought I'd check in on the fish bowl. The water was very dirty and the fish were looking quite sick. (Sure, I don't have fish in reality, but I think this must have been the HR fish tank, now that I think about it!) I started cleaning the tank with some paper towels, being careful not spill anything, and realizing that I better hurry, because my meeting would be starting soon. Then I woke up and realized: Oh yes, I'm NOT at work, and my meeting WILL be starting soon. Noooo! So I leaped out of bed and was out the door in record time. It took me 6 minutes to drive to work like a maniac, and as I peeled in to turn into the little service road to the parking structure, I saw a bunch of bees over at the hedge. As I started turning right, I looked directly into the hedge, and actually shouted "Eeeeee!" because a swarm of bees was inside it.

At lunch, I borrowed my co-worker's camera and went down to take the bees' photograph. I thought maybe grounds maintenance would have gotten rid of them by then... but no, there they were. Bees.

A million ancient bees began to sting our knees )

Kind of crazy, huh?

Thanks to my friend, the Internet, I now know that the disgusting insects infesting my pantry are Indian meal moths.

Knowledge is power, and soon they will all die. But not soon enough, as I estimate they've eaten about $100 worth of dried food products over the last month.

I've also been visited recently by Mr. Roach and Mr. Ant.

I channel Samuel L. Jackson: "Enough is enough! I have had it with these motherf* insects in this motherf* apartment!

Verily, there will be a day of rejoicing when I am no longer living in this pathetic slum. That is all.

I was walking outside, basking in the sunshine, when I saw him. How could I not? His dark green/brown body was a stark contrast to the red brick of the column. I approached and stared lovingly at him. He was perfect, almost as big as my hand. I wished I had brought my camera.

Just then, someone else who works here walked past and I showed her my new true love. "Do you guys have a digital camera?" I asked. She nodded, "Yes, but I don't think my boss would want you to use it to take photographs of a grasshopper."

At that moment, in a mighty whirr of wings, he took off from the column, flying clear across the walkway in that initial bound. I watched his body gleam in the sunlight as he flew off, his wingspan as big as a hummingbird's. I knew I'd never see him again. The best love affairs are shortlived.

A photo of something like him that I found online )

Daily crow tally for Friday: 3 (but I wasn't outside for very long)

I did see a lot of cockroaches and a cricket. And slugs. I was telling [livejournal.com profile] aerinys that I always feel so sorry for slugs, because they're homeless. I then imagined slugs battling it out for snail shells the way hermit crabs do. Maybe they do!

I will do some movie reviews later, but right now I am too mellow and lazy.

That is all.

My dear [livejournal.com profile] vaznetti, when you come back from your vacation and are reading my journal, do not read this entry.

Because this is an entry in which I talk about cockroaches. )

I have fleas.

This is very disturbing to me. I just caught another flea on myself. Actually, it escaped me. How did this happen? I have no pets here. The roommate's boyfriend has a dog, but as far as I know, they've never brought it over. Am I that dirty?

What's next, bedbugs? Ticks? Lice? Should I check my hair for nits?

I had an entry a while back (too lazy to figure out how to link back to it) when I was really mad and upset. It was mainly because of my own lack of fiscal responsibility and credit card people being after me. But now, the student loan people are after me too, and I am blameless! So I feel nothing but self-righteous indignation, and have spent much of the morning being very snarky to people on the phone.

Still, I need to win the lottery, pronto.
